Villa One accommodates up to 10 guests, including children of all ages, with five generously proportioned en-suite bedrooms. Take a walk unlike any other through Ellerman’s manicured and much-loved gardens. Inspired by nearby superstar Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, the grounds are positively abloom with proteas and pelargoniums, trimmed with birdsong and awash with colour. Perhaps we’ll spend the afternoon in the soft light of a private garden art tour, plump for the drama of a coastal drive towards a vineyard tasting, and cap the day with a sommelier-led sundowner. Further afield, maybe a helicopter flight along the dramatic peninsula, or a short boat-crossing to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 18 years. Of course, the greatest luxury here may be the freedom to do very little – linger by the pool, contemplate a particularly poignant painting – in a haven just minutes from a city that pulses with energy.
