Water plays both architect and storyteller in Botswana’s rightly revered Okavango Delta, shaping a landscape of luminous floodplains and palm-studded islets where life blooms in abundance. Beyond the raised wooden decks of our comfortably elegant Monachira Camp, the curtain rises on the Delta’s theatre: elephants wade, antelope flicker, and hundreds of birds stitch colour across an endless sky. From exhilarating game drives with our ever-ready Micato Safari Director, to up-close-and-personal guided walking safaris and sinuous waterborne forays via mokoro, motorboat, or both – each encounter offers a distinct, deeply immersive reading of this remarkable wetland world. All the while, our home from home awaits with cool drinks, superb cuisine, and the wide smiles for which the Batswana people are so famous.

Activities at Monichira Camp

The day’s rhythm is governed by light, water, and spirited game drives in the early dawn and cool late afternoon. Elephants stand knee-deep in glassy channels, lions prowl on the hunt, perhaps a few jewel-bright bee-eaters darting as airborne escort to it all. Depending on water levels, we may elect to glide low in a traditional mokoro in silent tandem with water lilies, birdlife and bathing buffalo; to cover more ground, motorboats are on hand to reach hidden corners of the delta. Guided nature walks invite a slower, more textural encounter; birding in the wildlife-rich Moremi Game Reserve is exceptional, the air alive with wing and call. At camp, there’s always time to indulge: a cooling plunge pool beneath a vast African sky, a restorative massage in the privacy of your tent, and time perchance to dream alongside the saucy duet of a pair of Black-collared Barbets. Because a Micato safari revolves joyously around life’s creatures – and its creature comforts – in whatever measure you fancy.

Monachira Camp welcomes kids, grandkids, their parents and their parent’s parents with equal gusto. Two thoughtfully designed family-friendly suites sleep up to four in spacious safari style.
