Even well-prepared travellers are often shocked by South Africa’s varietally splendid sceneries. We know about glorious Cape Province, and the Garden Route, and the classic African gamelands of Kruger, but what about the unexpected glories of the Mpumalanga Lowveld?

Blyde River Canyon, South Africa’s deepest and by any measure greenest canyon, is the centrepiece of the super-scenic Mpumalanga Lowveld. We fly over the rock fortresses and cathedrals and cascading waterfalls of the great canyon on a variety of flight paths, marvelling at the intricacies of some of the oldest exposed rocks on earth, perhaps setting down on a mountaintop for a fabulously exclusive picnic.

Launching pads for the Mapulanga adventure are close to many of our South Africa safari camps and lodges, and pickups can be arranged at those very camps. Breakfast in the veld, lunch on a mountaintop.
