Kempinski Villa Rosa

Insider’s Review of Kempinski Villa Rosa

A serene, smart and entirely refined luxury urban retreat, Villa Rosa is well located in the midst of bustlingly vibrant Nairobi, capital of Kenya. Here, the best of African hospitality and European luxe awaits – perhaps a few laps in the heated outdoor swimming pool and a soothing massage at the spa, or a civilized drink in the buzzing Balcony Bar followed by dinner in one of a quartet of fine restaurants. (Naturally, room service is available 24-7 too.) Rejuvenation and relaxation – whether following the rigours of a flight or the soul-stirring joys of safari – the Villa Rosa is an intelligent choice for a sophisticated Nairobi stay.

Accommodations at Kempinski Villa Rosa

Elegant classical décor and soothing cool tones make for restful nights and equally rejuvenating days. King-size beds, bright airy bathrooms and all the conveniences such as high-speed wifi, in-room safe and room service are in place. In addition to 200 luxurious rooms and suites over 10 floors, ample and delectable dining is on offer: casual nibbles at Cafe Villa Rosa,  K Lounge and the Balcony Bar, or perhaps a family feast at the ever-satisfying (and lucky) Chinese Restaurant 88 or LUCCA for tasty Italian fare. We also love a decadent dip into Tambourin, the Levant-inspired lounge and restaurant.

Activities at Kempinski Villa Rosa

A short drive from the city leads to the suburb of Karen, where the lush coffee farm once owned by Karen Blixen of Out of Africa fame rests at the foot of the rolling Ngong Hills. A wander through her home and garden paints a poignant picture of the rich lives and passionate loves we all now know from books and film. Nearby, we love a visit to the Kazuri workshop to see women create beautiful kiln-fired, hand-painted ceramic jewellery (inevitably, a few colourful pieces find their way home with us) – a fine example of successful local enterprise that now employs 350 local women. Also on the outskirts of Nairobi, the famous Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world. Here, soul-stirring encounters with baby elephants at feeding and playtime are ours firsthand, an unforgettable experience for any age. So too, the entertaining and educational non-profit Giraffe Centre provides an intimate encounter with these graceful, majestic masters of the treetops. Don’t be surprised if you win a kiss goodbye. Back at the hotel, a heated outdoor pool and full array of indulgent spa treatments await.
