Located in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Atzaró Camp is a delightful assurance that unexpected couplings, like a whisper of silk over a sun-dried savannah, can be just the thing on safari. Accessible only via helicopter, this is a place where the plains meet the delta, where golden grass and shimmering cerulean water abut and swirl in a mirage of endless waterways. It is also the shared vision of world-respected outfitter, African Bush Camps, and the international hospitality connoisseurs of the Atzaró Group, weaving finesse and warmth in equal measure. From the sprawling outdoor swimming pool to the discrete purr of air conditioning in each high-design, private suite, here, wilderness and comfort make for excellent companions.
Atzaró Camp consists of eight suites, as well as a family suite and a private villa, set in a landscape of towering reeds, glittering waterways, and savanna grasslands. Each suite’s layout and design celebrates Botswana’s raw natural beauty, not to mention the luxury of utter privacy: we’ll see furnishings of rough-grain wood, leather, and canvas amid tones of green, blue, and gold—hues of the Okavango Delta. The contemporary design proffers everything we might want, and then some more, from the feather-soft, four-poster king-sized beds and leather couches to the handsome parquet flooring and oriental rugs. In the private outdoor space, each suite has its own plunge pool and screened shower and bath—idyllic, quite frankly, for a late-afternoon soak serenaded by the calls of weaver birds, or perhaps the quiet splashes of elephants and hippos in the water beyond.
Naturally, game drives with your Micato Safari Director take centre stage in this green heart of Botswana—leopards, elephants, lions, and Cape buffalos abound—but so too should Atzaró’s guided bush walks, mokoro canoeing, helicopter flights, and nighttime stargazing. In the evening, sit a spell with the camp’s wine sommelier and sip through a tasting in the cellar, or sidle up to a velvet pouf at the Palm Bar to browse the menu of curated champagnes and cocktails within view of the lagoon beyond. (Prefer something lighter? The high-tea room faces an observation deck that’s delightful for leisurely afternoons.) Wellness pursuits are taken seriously here as well: a large swimming pool, open-air gym, spa, and a yoga space are all available, along with a boutique stocked with fine gifts to take home.
