3 Royally Hot Safari Spots

By Micato Staff May 11, 2018

Not long ago we published our Micato Hot List of the places to go in 2018 and we don’t mind telling you that people loved it, so much so that in honour of the May nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle we’re singling out three safari destinations that are not just hot, but royally hot.

Royals have long had a love affair with African safari and our journeys to Kenya, Botswana, and Namibia are hotter than ever. Here’s why you want to go, and how to get there with Micato.

Kenya

What’s Royal: In 1952, while with her husband Prince Philip, Princess Elizabeth learned that her father King George VI had passed away. So she effectively became Queen Elizabeth II while on safari in Kenya.

Why It’s Hot: The Royal Family has made many jaunts to Kenya over the years — Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton while at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, one of our favourite places. But aside from being a House of Windsor haunt, Kenya will always be the Africa of our imagination… and while there with Micato you’ll always feel like royalty, with a Safari Director and Driver-Guide with you every step of the way, a 24/7 Micato concierge at your beck and call, and so much more.

How to get there: One of our many classic Kenya safaris or a customized Micato Kenya adventure with lodges and camps that are positively royal.

 Botswana

What’s Royal: Botswana is where Prince Harry romanced his bride. Further, he says the country is “where I feel more like myself than anywhere else in the world” and year after year our guests emphatically agree.

Why It’s Hot: Well populated by marvelous animals big and small, punctuated by isolated idyllic lagoons, and over-arched by vast African skies, Botswana is a wild, untouched wonderland that privacy-seeking VIPs have long responded to. And surveying the wildlife-rich waterways and floodplains of the Okavango Delta by dugout canoe or hot-air balloon is one of the most novel ways to safari.

How to get there: Immerse yourself in Botswana’s Timeless Wilderness, which also makes time for another wondrous watery phenomenon, Victoria Falls, or go From Cape to Delta to explore the Okavango Delta and Cape Town as well as Sir Richard Branson’s Ulusaba Private Game Reserve. We also arrange many wondrous private journeys to Botswana.

Namibia

What’s Royal: Rumour has it that Harry and Meghan will be honeymooning there so this already-hot spot will only get hotter.

Why It’s Hot: Namibia is an amalgam of the remote and romantic with its beguiling Skeleton Coast, surfable Sossusvlei Dunes and cozy, secluded lodges. And as it’s next door to Botswana, you can channel your favourite royals by easily visiting both countries during a single journey.

How to get there: Our Namibia specialists relish designing private journeys that include plenty of time to explore the dunes and coast and enjoy Namibia’s beguiling lodges.
