Zanzibar

Exploring the Isle of Spices

Zanzibar’s very name is a byword for romantic exoticism. The island’s Indian Ocean air, perfumed with cinnamon and Arabic coffee, caresses travellers from the moment they step off their short flights from mainland Tanzania. Its white-sand beaches and serene resorts are marvellous places to unwind after a lively safari, and the meandering streets of Stone Town offer a colourful bit of history and a lot of interesting sparkle to a surpassingly lovely island experience.

Itinerary

DAY 1 Nairobi or Arusha to Zanzibar

A short flight takes us to the legendary Spice Island’s famous white sand beaches and lovely resorts. Zanzibar is an ideal place to indulge in one of the world’s most precious experiences: pure, blue-sky, turquoise-sea relaxation. We’ll consult with you about your choice of locations: either a hotel in the exotically historical Stone Town or a lovely seaside resort outside of town.

DAYS 2 & 3  Beach repose or island touring

The choice is yours. And since there is much more to the island than its marvelous beaches, we can arrange a variety of guided experiences: Explorations of the winding alleys and busy markets of a fabulously colourful Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; excursions through the lush countryside to the tropical set-piece Jozani Forest; visits to plantations where cinnamon, cardamon, and intense Arabi coffees-and of course, cloves, “the gold of Zanzibar,” perhaps the world’s most desired spice-are grown.

DAY 4 Departure

Before heading outbound, we’ll probably have a chance to do some last-minute shopping, perhaps for that fantastically carved teakwood chest that caught our eye, or a supply of intensely scented pomanders, reminders of a sojourn in what many insist is an earthly outpost of paradise.
