Livingstone Wing Safari

The Great Game Parks of Kenya

The Livingstone Wing Safari is a delightful journey for travellers with limited time away from home yet who desire an in-depth safari experience. Devoted exclusively to Kenya, in less than two weeks we touch upon nearly all of the region's highlights, while enjoying exceptional wildlife throughout. Four flights expedite travel between locations and make the most of our time in each reserve.

11 Days Departs Tuesday, Returns Friday

Day 1 Depart Home

Your Micato safari begins today-adventure awaits in Africa!

Day 2 Arrive Nairobi

Welcome to Nairobi. An awaiting guide accompanies you to Fairmont The Norfolk Hotel, an elegant blend of colonial splendour and modern luxury.

Day 3 Nairobi

The excitement begins today with a safari briefing by the Micato team and a fascinating talk by a Maasai Elder. Then we're off to the lovely leafy district of Karen where we pay homage to author Karen Blixen of Out of Africa acclaim by visiting her former residence, while nearby Giraffe Centre brings us face-to-face with tame Rothschild giraffes. Lunch is a delightful affair with Micato's founders, Felix and Jane Pinto, at their Nairobi home. The Pintos take great pleasure in personally welcoming guests-and you'll begin to understand why Micato is renowned for such warm hospitality.

Day 4 Amboseli National Park

This morning we fly over the scenic Athi Plains, into the bush country of Amboseli-home to the legendary Maasai tribesmen and famous for huge herds of elephant. The first game runs of any safari are always the most exciting and Amboseli's rich wildlife will certainly provide ample thrills. Our accommodations are at either Amboseli Serena or Ol Tukai Lodge.

Day 5 Amboseli National Park

We awaken today to the sights and sounds of big game country and remarkable views. In addition to elephant, antelope, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and the rare black rhino, nearly every vista within the park is framed by the wide, great, high and majestic square top of Kilimanjaro...to borrow Hemingway's words!

Day 6 - Day 7 Laikipia Plateau

Connecting flights in Nairobi, we wing north to the broad Laikipia Plateau and the private game park of Loisaba Lodge where pioneering conservation practices and ranching have yielded remarkable results. In fact, tourism profits here are dedicated to conserving the wilderness and assisting tribal communities. Loisaba is not only an indulgent paradise, but a worthy cause.

We roam this protected wilderness in complete privacy, seeing an array of wildlife difficult to find elsewhere, including leopard, elephant, hippo, cheetah, beisa oryx and the ever-elusive wild dog.

There are myriad diversions available from the relaxing to the rigorous. Unwind at the spa or pool or exert yourself on the tennis courts. And should the mood strike, a range of stunning adventures awaits: camel and horseback riding, mountain biking, or spending cocktail hour peering out from a game blind, watching the elusive predators in action. Walking or running expeditions with Samburu guides are also fabulous experiences where we do not merely observe wildlife, but enter their world.

And what a world it is! The sky here is endless, the air is clear and sweet-scented, and the landscape is full of wonder. This is a place where prickly-pear cacti meet acacia trees, jutting rocky outcrops provide a resting place for klipspringer antelopes seeking refuge from predators, and the sky at night is a dazzling sheets of stars upon stars, so thick that they seem hardly real. rt yourself on the tennis and boules courts. Day 8 - Day 9 Maasai Mara

This morning we fly west over the dramatic Great Rift Valley to the unspoiled savannah of the Maasai Mara where magnificent events await. Here we search for great predators and perhaps even cubs during extensive game runs. On the plains are enormous herds of grazing animals plus the elusive cheetah and leopard hiding amidst
acacia boughs.

We may enjoy a revitalizing bush walk at daybreak with a naturalist guide and savour the savannah from the ground up-or perhaps we'll do just opposite and float high above it on an exhilarating hot-air balloon safari. We also visit a Maasai village and glimpse life so ancient and yet so enduring that it astonishes.

Our exquisite accommodations recall the golden age of safaris under canvas at either Kichwa Tembo Camp or Fairmont Mara Safari Club. The true pinnacle of our journey to the Mara however will be bush sundowners-a civilised cocktail party staged in the untamed wilds of Africa.

Day 10 Depart Nairobi

A short flight to Nairobi this morning and our adventure draws to a close. Yet our final day in Africa may be our most memorable as we spend a few hours at the Micato-AmericaShare Community Centre in Nairobi's poignant Mukuru slum. As we tour the Centre and get to know some of the inspiring people here, we will be astonished and moved by the invaluable work taking place. It is the perfect end to our time in Africa. Back at the Norfolk Hotel, a dayroom is available until we depart for the airport tonight.

Day 11 Arrive Home

In a nostalgic reverie of Africa, we arrive home.
